Amy England Summertown: Listen

All Alone in Texas Tonight

I wrote this one in the middle of the night at the Folk Alliance Conference. People told me no one sleeps at Folk Alliance and it's true! It was originally a ballad, but we kicked it up a notch in the studio. You can also download the original acoustic version on MySpace.

I'm watching the sun set down in Austin Over a Valentine's sky You're on a big jet plane back to Boston and you didn't turn around to say goodbye And I'm all alone in Texas tonight. Back at the motel thinking about what I'd say if you were to call me My phone ain't ringing, but Texas loves me anyway, that's what Lyle Lovett's saying At least I've got this motel radio and all those country songs they're comforting me so. At least I know no one will see these tears, except a couple Texas birds and a couple Texas beers. We're watching the sun set down in Austin Over a Valentine's sky You're on a big jet plane back to Boston and you didn't turn around to say goodbye And I'm all alone in Texas tonight. The city lights look lovely on the town, but they're just bringing me down It's just two nights now, we were up on the rooftop, lights falling like snow drops all around At least back home, the snow insulated the cold, and the days are not so bright and it's alright to be alone. At least back East, I'd know just what to do, and I wouldn't hanging round, feeling blue on you Watching the sun set down in Austin Over a Valentine's sky You're on a big jet plane back to Boston and you didn't turn around to say goodbye And I'm all alone in Texas tonight And I'm all alone in Texas tonight.
